Sandra Begay, chair of the STC.UNM Board of Directors and principal member of the technical staff at Sandia National Labs, is the guest lecture on Wednesday evening, May 17, at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science, as part of its Voices in Science Events. Join us for this talk by Sandra Begay. For more than 25 years she has developed natural resources through tribal renewable energy projects and nurtured Native American young people to take on challenges such as climate change and saving the planet.
Sandra Begay is a Principal Member of the Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories and leads Sandia’s technical efforts to assist Native American tribes with their renewable energy developments. She worked at Lawrence Livermore National Labs prior to coming to Sandia. She is a former Regent (Trustee) for UNM, and has been honored with awards for her work. She has been awarded the American Indian Science and Engineering Society’s Life-time Achievement Award, UNM’s Zia Alumnus Award, UNM School of Engineering Distinguished Alumnus Award, Stanford University Multicultural Alumni of the Year Award, and was a recipient of the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Women from the New Mexico Commission on the Status of Women. She earned her B.S. in Civil Engineering from UNM and M.S. in Structural Engineering from Stanford University.
