Legacy of Atomic Bomb Developed at Los Alamos Forging New Relationships and Focus on New Energy Technologies

Albuquerque, NM – July 20, 2015 August 9th will mark the 70th anniversary of the detonation of the first atomic bomb, developed in 1945 from the Manhattan Project, a research and development initiative to produce nuclear weapons. The project was led by Major General Leslie Groves of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers. While research and production took place at more than 30 sites across the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada, the bomb was designed by physicist and lab director J. Robert Oppenheimer and a team of scientists at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
