Albuquerque, New Mexico – The New Mexico Biotechnology and Biomedical Association (NMBio) is launching its inaugural Knowledge Fair & Expo by showcasing New Mexico’s pioneering and talented entrepreneurs in the bioscience, biomedical, agriculture, and healthcare communities. On Wednesday, October 18th at the UNM Student Union Building, more than 60 speakers from Las Cruces to Los Alamos will present their innovative and breakthrough ideas and products.
This event will feature three keynote speakers and a full day of panels and presentations on topics ranging from new-collar jobs in biotech, testing and trial research that will revolutionize healthcare, developing and protecting intellectual property, the good, the bad and the ugly of life science investing, and the future of cannabis in medical treatments. The event will feature a new wave of life science and tech leaders fostering success stories at the New Mexico Consortium, New Mexico State’s Arrowhead Center, the Ne w Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, the Santa Fe Business Incubator, and Innovate ABQ. Economic Development professionals from the state and Albuquerque will be available to provide information on state and private sector financial incentives for start-ups.
In addition to keynote speakers Robert Rubin, CEO of Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute, and James Greenwood, CEO of the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO), a third keynote speaker has just been added to the line-up, Momo Vuyisich, the CSO of Viome, Inc. — a Los Alamos firm that has caught the attention of investors as well as Forbes, the Wall Street Journal, CNBC and Inc.
Momo will discuss microbiome testing and how it is going to revolutionize health care. Viome is a wellness service that applies artificial intelligence to complex biological data to provide personalized diet, nutrition and lifestyle recommendations for healthy living.
There are approximately 40 trillion microorganisms living in your gut. They help you digest your food, produce beneficial and harmful chemicals, control infections by pathogens, regulate your immune system, and even control your emotions (ever have a gut feeling?). The Knowledge Fair & Expo is a key component and collaborative initiative to build a thriving biotechnology sector in NM that can harness the state’s workforce, research, and intellectual property to benefit the state’s residents. The event will be from 8 am to 4 pm with a cocktail reception to follow. Tickets for NMBio and New Mexico Tech Council members are $55, non-members are $95 and students are $40.
