UNM Cancer Center CEO and UNM cancer specialist Dr. Cheryl Willman has been chosen to participate in a White House initiative to increase funding for cancer research. Dr. Willman, an international leukemia expert and 2015 STC Innovation Fellow for her acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) discoveries, in particular the identification of a particular gene mutation in Hispanic and Native American children with ALL that is responsible for poor response to standard therapy and low survival rates, has led the Cancer Center to the highest NCI designation as a comprehensive cancer center.
